Kayiba Ginette Johnson was born in a hut outside of Mwene Ditu on June 16, 2008. Her mother passed in childbirth.  She was cared for by her father and two Aunts.  When she was 2 1/2 years old, her father took her to the orphanage in Mwene Ditu, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Her name was Ginette Kayiba Shumat. At age 3, she was adopted by Laurie Johnson in the DRC and brought to California where she was re-adopted by Laurie and she then took the name of Kayiba Ginette Johnson. She is the only surviving Johnson in the Ojai Valley and Donald Johnson would be very proud as she is an accomplished athlete and academic.  She was most recently awarded a full academic scholarship to a very elite private school in t
